A deprecation schedule making the rounds shows OpenAI shutting down large batches of legacy models:
- Already gone (Oct 23, 2026): gpt-4 snapshots, gpt-4-turbo, gpt-3.5-turbo, gpt-4.1-nano, o1, o1-pro, o3-mini, o4-mini — suggested replacements are gpt-5.6-sol / gpt-5.6-terra / gpt-5.6-luna
- Dec 11, 2026: gpt-5, gpt-5-mini, gpt-5-nano, gpt-5-pro, o3, o3-pro (the 2025-08-07 / 2025-04-16 snapshots)
- Jan–Feb 2027: tts-1 series, gpt-4o / gpt-4o-mini, gpt-4.1 family, realtime and audio models, whisper-1 and the transcribe series all sunset in stages
- Apr 1, 2027: gpt-5.1, gpt-5.3-codex, gpt-5.4-nano, replaced by gpt-6-sol / gpt-6-luna
The table pairs each batch with OpenAI's suggested replacement models. Solo SaaS founders and developers still calling these legacy model IDs need to migrate quickly or their integrations will break.
