1200 renders into a MiniMax H3 short film, dev open-sources ComfyUI take manager Picky
friedlc · reddit · 2026-10-30
After making a short film with MiniMax H3—1,200 renders for 85 keepers and an unusable folder of anonymous ComfyUI00xxx.mp4 files—the author open-sourced Picky, a ComfyUI custom node pack plus browser-based timeline editor.
Key features:
- Takes stay with their shot: every render filed by scene with exact prompt and seed; old prompt versions retained.
- Compare and pick: render 4–8 takes side by side, star winners, mark one "in the edit".
- Build on picks: extend, re-render at final quality with the same seed, or upscale via SeedVR2, with parent tracking.
- Structured prompts: writes MiniMax's official shot/camera/dialogue/soundscape format.
- Cast: define a character once with reference images, reference it in any prompt.
- Checker: warns about H3 failure modes (negations leaking as burned-in text, overcrowded shots).
- Agent skill: Claude Code/Codex can drive the same API with live edits.
Fully local on one 24 GB card, GPL-3.0, with a 2-minute walkthrough and browser demo.
