CMU open-sources SwarmChat, a Slack for agent swarms; 16 agents 6x faster

CMU researchers (Salakhutdinov, Welleck et al.) release SwarmChat, an open-source Slack for AI agent swarms: agents get channels, DMs, threads, boards, and files via an agent-native CLI; a dependency-free Python package is both server and client. After burning 500B tokens running coding agent teams on ProgramBench, they found swarms finish tasks faster (16-agent swarms match a single agent 6x sooner) and that swarm scaling is a third axis of scaling. They cite milestone swarms: 16 Claude agents writing a C compiler that builds the Linux kernel, 10,000 OpenAI agents solving a Navier–Stokes variant in 88 hours, and Axiom's swarm formalizing the Classification of Finite Simple Groups in under four weeks. Available via pip install swarmchat.
