Ben Goertzel: Big Tech and AI doomers are coordinating on regulatory capture of the entire AI industry
bengoertzel · x · 2026-10-30
Ben Goertzel argues in a long essay that AI doomers and Big Tech are either conspiring or at minimum coordinating toward a dangerous regulatory capture of the AI industry. The emerging "go, under supervision" compromise requires rules, experts, approved evaluators and licensed builders — roles understood to be filled by the frontier labs themselves and their safety-funder affiliates, not independent bodies. He draws parallels to regulatory capture in US finance and medicine, warning the debate could hand the short-term future to Big Tech rather than the long-term future to humanity.
