OpenAI to impose shared usage limit across ChatGPT and Codex starting December
mark_k · x · 2026-10-30
A subscription checkout screenshot shared by markk shows OpenAI has quietly added a term stating that starting in December, plan usage will have a shared limit across all of ChatGPT and Codex (highlighted on the €23/month Plus plan).
Key implications:
- The near-unlimited casual use of ChatGPT ends — chatting and coding will draw from the same quota
- This aligns with the rumored merge of "Chat" and "Work" plans, making the shared cap a companion change
Heavy users, especially Plus subscribers who also use Codex for coding, may see a noticeable reduction in usable quota, with exact allocation details still to be announced by OpenAI.
