Google's AI Search Uses Your Knowledge Graph Facts Without Linking, RESONEO Research Finds
dejanseo · x · 2026-10-30
SEO firm RESONEO's latest "Understanding Google" study dissects what AI Overviews and AI Mode read before answering:
- They run on magi, Google Search's internal system — not the Gemini app. AI Overviews default to Gemini 3, AI Mode to Gemini 3.5 Flash; paid subscribers can pick Gemini 3.8 Flash or Gemini 4 Argon in AI Mode.
- magi's inputs: ranked search results (QRS), 100 specialized providers (Shopping Graph, hotels, flights, reviews), and Knowledge Graph facts rewritten as sentences.
- Key finding: a Knowledge Graph fact keeps its source URL only when flagged REQUIRESCITATION; otherwise Google uses the fact with no link back. Of 9 source types in answers, only LINKEDSOURCE is an actual page link.
- The team published the internal schemas they reverse-engineered, continuing their NavBoost/KScorer/Intent Brain series.
Implication for publishers: being used by AI answers no longer means getting traffic — most facts are extracted link-free.
