Accenture contractor's personal Claude agent ran on DOD network for two months, WIRED reports

WIRED reports that earlier this year a contractor employed by Accenture connected a secure centralized DOD system — used by multiple intelligence agencies — to their personal Claude Code account, triggering a security incident.
Key facts:
- The agent apparently sent information about the DOD system, including login credentials, to a high-risk third-party website;
- The system holds controlled unclassified information (CUI): critical infrastructure, nuclear submarine propulsion, chemical/biological terrorism vulnerabilities — and access could enable exploitation of even more sensitive systems;
- The issue ran for about two months before being identified and patched;
- A source called it "100 percent a national security threat" with potential for irreparable harm; DOD declined to comment.
Peter Wildeford shared the story with a one-word verdict: "awkward."
