Evo 2 genome model designs cell-type-specific enhancers from just tens of examples
BrianHie · x · 2026-10-29
Brian Hie's lab shows Evo 2 exhibits generative in-context learning: prompting with tens of examples produces novel regulatory DNA sequences without retraining. Mechanistic analysis suggests genomic ICL arises from induction like in language. RL with sequence-to-function rewards strengthens ICL; designed enhancers drove cell-type-specific expression in three human cell lines and selectively labeled layer 5 corticospinal neurons in mouse cortex in vivo, outperforming existing enhancers. Code, Evo2-flash and an ICL web tool are released.
