Stop repeating yourself to every AI: a 4-step fix for syncing memory across Claude, ChatGPT and personal agents
jonathanmalkin · reddit · 2026-10-29
The author found his AI assistants (Claude, Grok Bot, Muse) each kept private memory files, giving conflicting answers about the same client. Fix: consolidate everything into one shared workspace each AI can read.
Core idea
- App-internal memories can't see each other; a workspace is one folder you own plus a map file (CLAUDE.md / AGENTS.md) every AI reads.
Four steps
- Have each AI move everything it keeps about you into the workspace, update the map, replace moved items with pointers, skip passwords/account numbers.
- Turn off built-in memory in each app.
- Give personal agents one rule (e.g. for GitHub: "Pull before you read. Push after you save").
- Ask all AIs the same question to verify consistency.
Placement tips: synced drives (Drive/Dropbox/iCloud) need offline availability and have sync lag; GitHub requires push/pull discipline. Browser ChatGPT can't read the workspace—export its memories and paste them in.
