Social listening agents in 2026: platform-by-platform data access reality check
Away-Engine-6762 · reddit · 2026-10-29
A developer building a brand social-listening agent across X, Reddit, TikTok and LinkedIn shares hard-won lessons: the agent was easy, data access is the real project. X's official API is billed per post returned (fine for narrow searches), Reddit's API is limited with shifting terms so most use third-party providers, TikTok/LinkedIn have no real official route, and search engines are a slow fallback. Key lessons: dedupe across platforms before summarizing, set strict daily spending caps (one bad query can return thousands of posts), and stick to public posts. The bigger structural problem: four separate data vendors with separate accounts and bills can be more work than the agent itself.
