Discord Will Index Public Chats with AI Summaries in Google—Users Never Opted In

Discord has announced a major update: messages in public servers and AI-generated discussion summaries will be indexed by search engines like Google. Starting November 16, 2026, public Server Web Pages with AI-generated summaries roll out first; by mid-December 2026, word-for-word chat messages from participating public channels will appear directly in Google search results. Only large Discoverable Servers (active 8+ weeks, 1,000+ members) are affected.
SEO veteran Lily Ray argues the change is "good" for platforms seeking organic/AI visibility, but mostly bad for users who never opted in—and the content will inevitably be spammed to oblivion.
