NIDO's offline AI assistant won't guess emergency numbers — it answers from verified facts
NIDO_007 · reddit · 2026-10-29
NIDO, an open-source (MIT) AI assistant that runs entirely on your phone, shipped an alpha release built around one rule: never guess. Most AI assistants will confidently make up an emergency number — the worst possible answer in a crisis.
Key updates:
- New Emergency tab with verified numbers for 23 countries (Latin America, Spain, Portugal, US), each checked against official sources with the check date shown, plus quick guides for CPR, bleeding, choking, burns, earthquakes and hurricanes.
- Answers come from a verified fact table, not the model: asking for Chile's ambulance number returns 131 with its source; if your country isn't covered, it says so. Weekly automated checks re-verify official sources and flag changes.
- Every answer links to the full guide it came from, with the used passage highlighted.
- Knowledge packs can be shared between phones over Bluetooth/local Wi-Fi; only packs from NIDO's signed catalog install.
- Fully offline after first download, no account needed. Passes 4,000+ automated tests but hasn't been tested on real phones yet.
