Memvid Replaces RAG Pipelines with a Single File, Hits 17K GitHub Stars
udmrzn · x · 2026-10-29
Open-source project Memvid replaces full RAG stacks with a single .mv2 file containing raw data, embeddings, search index and metadata — with BM25 full-text + HNSW vector search, append-only writes preserving history, WAL-based crash recovery, and fully offline local operation. Files are portable across machines and agents. It has reached 17.1k GitHub stars (Apache-2.0), raising the awkward question of whether a personal AI agent needs a whole database deployment at all.
