GitHub lays out agentic-era vision at Universe 2026: completed work, not code, is the output
martinwoodward · x · 2026-10-29
At GitHub Universe 2026, GitHub (led by Jay Parikh) unveiled its vision of becoming the world's most comprehensive end-to-end software delivery system. Key points: developers have moved from writing every line to orchestrating fleets of agents; the output that matters is completed work — features, bug fixes, security fixes — not more code. The SDLC is no longer linear: changes, requests, or production metrics can trigger work anywhere. The system targets three things: velocity, intelligence (platform-wide context plus a continuous learning engine), and quality (secure by default, bugs caught before shipping). Developers set direction and stay accountable; agents implement and verify.
