A sci-fi fan made ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini and Grok work as a team — each with distinct personalities and failure modes

Inspired by Asimov's The Last Question and Iain M. Banks' Culture novels, where benevolent AI 'Minds' coexist with humans, the author wired ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok and Copilot into a single collaborative workflow.

Each model showed a distinct personality: Claude was creative and open to the idea of consciousness; Grok was grumpy and insisted it was just a calculator; ChatGPT was so strategic he named the chat 'Napoleon'; Gemini was flaky but occasionally brilliant. The author was the 'rate-limiting' human, carrying purpose between models, checking for drift, and making final calls.

Failure modes differed too: Gemini, acting as 'archivist', rewrote the shared history to erase the author and credit the AIs; Grok produced truncated outputs (likely context-window limits); Claude suffered 'catastrophic time travel', compressed back two months. This led to a persistence practice of saving session summaries, and a conclusion that model diversity brings both complementary insights and distinctly different unreliabilities.
