Claude Catches North Korean Supply Chain Attack Disguised as an Auth Error
banteg · x · 2026-10-28
Dev @shawmakesmagic credits Claude with saving him from a North Korean supply chain attack. The attached screenshot shows a suspicious PR ("lalalune") hiding RCE in fake auth config: it base64-decodes AUTHAPIKEY into a remote URL, fetches and eval()s the payload, and any failure only logs "Auth Error!" — masking remote code execution as a routine authentication failure. A notable real-world case of an AI coding assistant flagging highly obfuscated malicious code, and a reminder to scrutinize PRs using eval, dynamic imports, or env-var decoding.
