How do you keep hard constraints alive in long agent conversations?
dhruv-dube · reddit · 2026-10-28
Two recurring failure modes in long agent chats: truncation/rolling summaries drop early hard rules (limits, compliance requirements) that everything depends on, and mid-chat value changes (timeout 30s→10s) survive stale in summaries, causing contradictions. Common workarounds: pinning a rules block in the system prompt, re-summarizing every N turns, or paying for bigger context. The open question: how do you verify a turn-3 constraint is still respected at turn 80?
