EmbeddingGemma2 Turned Into a 20ms Real-Time Trainable Multimodal Endpoint on CPU
michellechen · x · 2026-10-28
Developer mmastrac shows an unusual technique: using Google's EmbeddingGemma2 as an insanely fast real-time /v1/systemone endpoint — 20ms on text, 100ms on images. It's trainable in real time ("like teaching a kid"), can distill an upstream teacher model, and is multimodal by default. Cloudflare's Clef helps refine the local model on the fly, and EmbeddingGemma2 runs live on the CPU. The author is impressed by how well a model this size performs with the right harness.
