Genesis AI: a local-first assistant that sleeps, forgets, and models memory on the human brain
BodyCount1 · reddit · 2026-10-28
A developer released Genesis AI, a Windows desktop app (plus Android and browser extension) where one AI lives continuously on your machine — no "new chat", ever. It runs fully offline or against six provider types, with 305 built-in tools. The core is a memory system modeled part-by-part on human cognition: an attention gate, working memory, episodic/semantic/procedural long-term stores, permanent emotional stamps, spaced strengthening (simulated 50 years of life before enabling), decay-based forgetting that only counts running time, sleep consolidation with dream-like replay, reconsolidation, and prospective memory. Exact originals sit behind every gist and a full-text index complements vector search, so files and code never fade. The author validated the design against a DW documentary on memory — 90% of the described mechanisms were already implemented.
