Apple opens up Keynote: new JSON-based .keyx format, Python library, and MCP support for AI agents
SumitGup · x · 2026-10-28
Apple is giving Keynote an open, JSON-based file format (.keyx) plus a Python library to create Keynote files programmatically on any platform. iWork files have long been closed and hard to modify — tools resorted to building PowerPoint files and importing them — which blocked AI-driven document creation.
Creator Studio subscribers on Mac also get MCP support in Keynote, Pages, and Numbers, letting users bring their own AI agent to read, edit, and automate all three formats. Both changes ship in November, marking a significant move toward AI-friendly iWork workflows.
