Axiom computer-verifies the largest proof in history: 15,000-page CFSG in Lean
burny_tech · x · 2026-10-28
Axiom announced a complete Lean auto-formalization of the Classification of Finite Simple Groups (CFSG), the "periodic table of symmetry" — about 15,000 pages built by 100+ mathematicians across generations, long considered one of the least formalizable proofs.
Mathematicians marveled that CFSG had apparently contained no mistakes at all; per follow-ups, Axiom's agents reportedly surfaced 5,000+ errata during the process, all thankfully fixable. A landmark moment for AI-assisted mathematical formalization.
