AAAI/ICLR Reviewer: About Half of Reviews Look AI-Generated, Peer Review in Crisis
dsmirza · reddit · 2026-10-28
A reviewer with 10 top-conference stints since 2022 argues roughly half the reviews he saw for AAAI/ICLR 2027 are fully or partially AI-written. Cues include uniform paragraph lengths, misplaced field answers, N/A in new rebuttal fields, overly precise citations (adding "(doi.org)" after DOI links), smart quotes, and Unicode math instead of LaTeX. He also flags AI-scented author writing (marketing-style headings, synonym stacking; only 1 of 3 ICLR papers felt fully human). His one proposal: ban AI even for polishing, since allowing it creates the expectation. He admits it's unprovable and asks the community for fixes.
