Harmonic Launches Aristotle for Automated Formal Verification of C and Verilog Code
satnam6502 · x · 2026-10-28
Harmonic has released Aristotle, an AI that performs formal verification of software and hardware, with initial support for C and Verilog. The pitch: as AI writes more and more code that no one can review, Aristotle's job is to "prove it's correct."
Workflow: point it at code, describe the properties that should always hold in natural language (or let it automatically propose key properties), and the AI works through the proof step by step, ultimately returning a verdict of verified / refuted / undecided along with the assumptions behind each proof. It can run on every commit. In a demo, it refuted OpenSSL heartbleed.c and verified the fixed version 1.0.1g; the code is modeled in Lean.
Target use cases: cybersecurity, firmware, and pre-tapeout RTL/chip design verification — traditionally, formal verification required expert teams, years of work, and large budgets; Aristotle wants to put it in the hands of every engineer.
