Microsoft's custom Maia chips to make up only ~10% of its AI chip spend by early 2027, says Evercore

Per Evercore ISI, Microsoft's in-house Maia chips are expected to account for only about 10% of the company's AI chip spending by early 2027, with 90% still going to Nvidia, AMD, and other merchant chips.
The chart lays out why Maia's share stays small: inference-only (training stays on Nvidia GPUs), Microsoft's own products only (Azure customers still rent Nvidia/AMD systems), and the multi-gigawatt Maia rollout only starting in 2027.
