The story of Gitmos: the unauthorized live open-source wall inside GitHub HQ
omojumiller · x · 2026-10-28
Omoju Miller recounts building Gitmos in 2020: a live wall at GitHub HQ showing open source in real time — a globe with PRs arcing between cities, a Trending Developers list, and sponsorship hearts. It grew from Cerebro, an open-source GitHub social-graph explorer he found in 2019. The project had no roadmap slot or assigned engineers, yet he led it end-to-end: writing the RFP, hiring the creative team, building the data pipeline, and installing walls in SF and Redmond.
