If ETH is false, LLM productivity gains may be eaten by rising security costs
jfischoff · x · 2026-10-27
The author reasons from the hypothetical that ETH is false: this wouldn't make cryptography impossible, but it would suggest many assumptions around one-way functions are wrong—a sign "we probably don't know what we are doing."
The implication: even if LLMs deliver productivity gains, in an inherently less secure world those gains could be taken away by the need to constantly secure everything, spending ever more time on security overhead.
