Lean–text proof mismatch means AI math claims need long human verification
srchvrs · x · 2026-10-27
Commenting on recent claims that AI has "solved" the Exponential Time Hypothesis (ETH), the author argues that a mismatch between Lean formal proofs and text proofs doesn't mean the solution is broken — but verification and cleanup could take a long time and engage many mathematicians.\n\nSo, contrary to doomsday scenarios of AI replacing mathematicians, scientists and developers, AI is actually creating substantial new work for them. He also cautions that even if ETH results hold, they shouldn't be hyped before rigorous scientific validation.
