OpenAI internal model claims to refute ETH; Impagliazzo, Paturi and Williams to organize independent review
aminkarbasi · x · 2026-10-27
An internal OpenAI model has produced a claimed refutation of the Exponential Time Hypothesis (ETH). Russell Williams announces that Russell Impagliazzo, Mohan Paturi and himself have been asked to organize an open, independent examination of the claim. A refuted ETH would imply subexponential algorithms for 3SAT and shake the foundations of NP-completeness theory.
