OpenAI says its models have solved three longstanding open problems in math, computer science, and quantum field theory; academics are now checking the claims.
The author zooms out: the Rubin Observatory's ten-year sky survey began in June, NASA's Roman telescope launched in August, and a 39-meter telescope follows around 2030. Decades of theory on dark energy, exoplanets, and the early universe are about to meet a flood of data — with AI on both sides. His takeaway: never been a better time to write hard sci-fi.
