"Exponential Time Hypothesis is False": Researcher Posts Purported Proof and Message to TCS Community
burny_tech · x · 2026-10-27
Researcher Scott Armstrong has posted a claim that the Exponential Time Hypothesis (ETH) is false, along with a public Google Drive repository containing folders labeled Anthropic and OpenAI, a "Message to the TCS Community on ETH," and a ReadMe.
ETH is a cornerstone assumption in computational complexity (asserting 3-SAT admits no subexponential-time algorithm); if disproven, many hardness results built on it would be affected. This is currently a single-author announcement that has yet to pass community peer review.
