Interpretability startup Goodfire is committing $10M to launch a 'Human Genome Project for AI.' Chief scientist @banburismus co-authored a vision piece arguing neural networks are cleaner than expected—most neurons in models up to trillions of parameters can already be understood—and that agents can accelerate progress. The goal: scaling laws for interpretability, where understanding grows predictably with compute, culminating in reverse-engineering a frontier model and publishing a living encyclopedia of how it works.
