LightMTP: lightweight latent multi-token prediction boosts LLM planning in pretraining
gdm3000 · x · 2026-10-27
LightMTP explores whether language models can learn to think further ahead during pretraining. It adds two lightweight latent multi-token prediction variants — Single (one cosine loss) and Concat (one cosine loss per offset) — as training-only auxiliary objectives on a shared causal transformer, leaving inference unchanged. Results show improved planning, reasoning and coding performance.
