Codex Pro users hit recurring HTTP 429s with 84–99% allowance remaining
interconnectedMe · ghdev · 2026-10-26
Issue #57084 on openai/codex aggregates documented HTTP 429 failures on Linux/VS Code with ChatGPT Pro auth during Oct 25–26. Evidence includes 14 retry warnings across eight turns on Oct 25 with 84% weekly allowance remaining, and an exact 429 recurrence on Oct 26 with 99% remaining. Multiple retries converged on shared server deadlines within 0.7 seconds, and source inspection shows the generic-429 retry path honors server retry advice. Both stable extension 26.1021.22027 and the previous prerelease exhibited inference rejections; the root cause (capacity vs short-window policy) remains unconfirmed.
