Dev builds open-source Excalidraw MCP after AI-generated diagrams kept overlapping text and arrows
pikahikmag · reddit · 2026-10-28
A Reddit developer, frustrated that existing Excalidraw MCP servers produced messy AI diagrams with overflowing text and tangled arrows, built his own MCP server that lets AI agents generate and manipulate Excalidraw scenes directly.
Key focus is readability rather than just emitting shapes: font-aware text containment, component separation, connector routing around obstacles, geometry diagnostics, Mermaid and architecture diagram generation, scene editing, and PNG export.
- Run with: uvx exca-mcp
- Open source under MIT on GitHub (Dharshan2208/excalidraw-mcp), also on PyPI
