One long Claude Code session builds a full Android TV launcher with a 1-second-latency live camera

A Reddit user shares how a "debloat your Android TV with Claude Code" experiment grew into a full custom launcher for the NVIDIA Shield and Fire TV Stick, free and MIT-licensed at github.com/cascodigital/skippy-tv.
The workflow was one long Claude Code session where the author supplied direction and taste while Claude did the work over adb and ssh, measuring instead of guessing:
- A live camera feed froze in WebView, so Claude wrote a small MPEG-TS demuxer feeding MediaCodec directly: 1s latency, 7-20% CPU, verified by comparing the camera's on-screen clock to real time.
- Fire OS blocks replacing the home screen; after accessibility tricks, set-home-activity, and disabling Amazon's launcher all failed, Claude built a usage-stats watcher and documented the 5s delay honestly.
The launcher includes animated wallpaper, a live patio camera, house lights from the remote, Plex widgets, and "Skippy" (the AI from Expeditionary Force) reading Home Assistant and roasting the owner on screen.
