The NativeCAD team released NativeBIM (beta v0.2.0), a local MCP server that lets AI assistants query, check, edit and generate IFC building models.
- Read/write IFC: supports IFC2X3, IFC4 and IFC4X3ADD2; untouched records stay byte-identical on write, with Boolean openings, ifcZIP export and more
- Ask the building in plain language: query stories, spaces, doors, areas, materials and properties, with every answer citing element GlobalIds and values cross-checked against IfcOpenShell
- Reversible edits: each change is previewed as a diff and schema-validated before applying; files never leave your machine
- Ships MCP tools for open, ask, check, repair, edit, measure, draw and export; test-fit and generative tools are still in development
- One $200/year seat license covers both NativeCAD and NativeBIM
The author stresses that AI output must be reviewed by certified engineers before real-world use.
