Same coding poll, wildly different answers: 12.7% on X vs 75.2% on Mastodon still hand-write >20% of code
mitsuhiko · x · 2026-10-26
mitsuhiko updated his cross-network survey on how much code developers still write by hand, adding more respondents after sample-size criticism. The question: 'Do you still write more than 20% of code by hand?' Results diverge dramatically:
- X/Twitter (poll, N=4,326): only 12.7% yes, 87.3% no
- Bluesky (replies classified, N=91): 26.4% yes
- Mastodon (poll, N=544): 75.2% yes, 24.8% no
The same question yields opposite answers across networks. The author notes Bluesky lacks a poll feature so replies were classified one per person, with 95% CIs shown. A striking snapshot of both AI-assisted coding adoption gaps across communities and cross-platform polling bias.
