Surehand MCP Brings Verified AI Editing to After Effects: Change Lists, Pixel Proofs, 29 Tools
ronron555 · reddit · 2026-10-26
A developer released Surehand, an MIT-licensed MCP server letting any MCP client operate Adobe After Effects (listed in the official MCP Registry), with design choices valuable to anyone building desktop-app MCP servers.
- Every tool returns a change list: the server snapshots what a call touched so the model verifies its own work instead of assuming
- Proof instead of trust: edits that shouldn't change the picture are rehearsed on a copy and compared pixel by pixel before being applied
- Small default tool set: only 29 core tools load by default (12k tokens instead of 50k); the other 85 are called on demand via two meta-tools
- The app stays in control: each call is one undo step; an in-app panel offers Full/Ask/read-only modes and can pause the AI
- One-file server: a single .mjs that installs its own signed AE extension on first run
Works with Claude, ChatGPT, Codex, Cursor, VS Code, Cline and more, with four demo videos and a GitHub repo.
