Codex Built a Mac Scanner App in 10 Minutes, Saving $99 on a 17-Year-Old Device

The author's 17-year-old Samsung scanner wouldn't work on a Mac Mini M4 — HP, which bought Samsung's printer unit, offers no Apple Silicon drivers. VueScan worked but watermarks pages unless you pay $99. Throwing the problem at Codex produced a fully working Mac app in 10 minutes, with color/resolution settings, brightness/contrast dials, and PDF/JPEG/PNG/TIFF export. Takeaway: AI coding tools are dissolving the moat around lots of legacy utility software.
