On-call engineer cut incident mitigation from 45 to 14 minutes by querying an AI agent in Slack first
No_Computer_1013 · reddit · 2026-10-25
An engineer on a 5-person on-call rotation for a B2B app now starts every incident by asking CodeRabbit's Slack agent what changed. The agent pulls recent deploys, the error spike, and PRs touching the failing endpoint, and can open a revert PR under the author's GitHub account through normal review checks.
- Last 6 incidents averaged 14 minutes from page to mitigation, vs 45 for the prior 6 — mostly by eliminating the 20 minutes spent locating the right PR.
- It was wrong once, blaming a config change when the real cause was a manually dropped database index, costing 10 minutes; the author now reviews its reasoning before reverting.
- The post invites discussion on where to draw the line between letting agents suggest and letting them act.
