Buddy: open-source Android app runs Claude Code/Codex agents on your phone via local MCP
3amae404 · reddit · 2026-10-25
Buddy is an open-source (Apache 2.0) Android app that runs Claude Code, Codex, OpenCode and Antigravity CLI agents on-device inside Alpine Linux (proot) — no PC, root, or adb needed. A local MCP server exposes screen reading (via accessibility tree as text), tapping, typing, app launching, and headless Chromium. Safety guardrails live in the app: approval cards for Send/Pay/Delete, per-app Trust/Hard/dual-review modes, and no typing into password fields. Key lessons: accessibility-tree text beats screenshots on speed and cost, safety must be enforced in-app not in prompts, and agents should re-read the screen after every action.
