LA Times "Self-driving Tesla" fatality headline slammed as misleading against CHP findings

BoredElonMusk shared an LA Times piece titled "Self-driving Tesla hits and kills 71-year-old pedestrian," commenting "this is why trust in media cratered." But the article's own text, citing the CHP, tells a different story: the pedestrian stepped "directly into the path of the Tesla," dashcam shows the car braking and steering left, and the man was then fatally struck by a second, hit-and-run driver; the 26-year-old Tesla driver stayed at the scene.
The "self-driving" framing contradicts the CHP's account, drawing criticism as a misleading headline that fuels misperceptions of autonomous driving and erodes media trust.
