RustGIS v0.4 ships: pure-Rust open-source GIS adds 3D terrain maps and GDAL-free database reads
giswqs · x · 2026-10-25
RustGIS v0.4.0 is out. The fast, free, pure-Rust open-source GIS runs natively on Windows/macOS/Linux and in the browser, keeps data local unless you send it to an AI model of your choice, and exposes every action as a scriptable command. Built from 369 PRs by 29 contributors (24 first-timers), the release adds GPU-powered 3D-style maps (tilt over terrain, extruded buildings, Moon and Mars), GDAL-free reads of Esri File Geodatabases and live MySQL/MariaDB/SQL Server tables, plus vertex editing, spatial joins, kriging and publication-ready layouts.
