Google Cloud launches Agent Compute Engine, a purpose-built sandbox runtime for AI agents

At AGNTCon + MCPCon, Google Cloud launched Agent Compute Engine (preview in coming months) alongside expanded agent governance.
- It grew out of the infrastructure Google built to run Gemini's massive agentic workloads: writing/executing code, running tools, driving browsers, orchestrating enterprise workflows
- Each agent gets a high-performance, hardware-isolated sandbox computer designed for highly concurrent, high-churn sessions that traditional compute primitives handle poorly
- Governance capabilities from Gemini for business extend to agents wherever they run, covering deployment, control, and scaling
- Google's thesis: the shift from single-turn prompting to autonomous agents is fundamentally an infrastructure problem
The thread also references Texas's attorney general suing OpenAI and Sam Altman.
