LangChain's five primitives for building a "company harness" from internal agents
hwchase17 · x · 2026-10-25
LangChain founder Harrison Chase shares lessons from building internal agents across marketing, sales, and engineering. Every team converged on the same five primitives: the agent lives where people work (Slack); it knows who's asking and acts on-behalf-of that user for some services and with its own identity for others; memory scoped globally and per-user; code runs in a sandbox (LangSmith Sandbox, no keys inside) that reaches GitHub/Salesforce/Model APIs via an auth proxy; and a large share of runs are scheduled or event-triggered rather than invoked — "ambient agents." Screenshots show their GTM agent triaging email and LinkedIn outreach with reply/no-reply-needed states.
