Cutting 5.8s first-token latency on Orin Nano: short prompts, cached tool schemas
AIFlow_ML · x · 2026-10-24
Author shares first fixes for the 5.8s first-token latency when deploying on an NVIDIA Orin Nano: shorten the system prompt, cache tool schemas, and stream tokens straight into TTS. NVIDIA's own AGX Orin scores 3.7s on the same 3K prompt. Notably, NVIDIA published benchmarks where its own model loses: Tau2-Bench 55.1 vs Qwen 3.5 4B at 75.1, RULER 64K 87.0 vs 95.1 — though it wins on tool-call timing (63.4 vs 37.8), making it a front end rather than a planner.
