Tesla has started production of its Optimus humanoid robot at its Fremont, California factory, according to Elon Musk. These are the company's first production-quality units, though some aspects still need adjustment and testing before deployment.
- Production target: Musk expects output to scale to 20,000 robots per week within about a year
- Deliveries: expected to begin late next year
- An accompanying clip shows Optimus serving popcorn at a public demo
Musk's timelines are famously aggressive, so the 20,000/week target deserves skepticism.
