Dev reverse-engineering TV remote finds built-in mic that records for exactly 5 seconds at boot
ngxson · x · 2026-10-24
Developer ngxson, reverse-engineering his TV remote, found it contains a built-in microphone that opens for exactly 5 seconds at power-on and then stops — possibly some kind of mic test, though he says more observation is needed before concluding. The remote protocol appears to be a BLE variant, and he's tempted to reverse-engineer it too, inviting others to crack open the remote and photograph the onboard ICs to help. Worth watching for smart-TV privacy: the mic is real and does get activated, purpose still unverified.
