No sign you can remove mathematicians from the loop yet, researcher says of AI proof hype
gerardsans · x · 2026-10-24
In a follow-up to his critique of AI math claims, the author adds that while the setup may change, there's so far no indication mathematicians can be removed from the process. He says labs regularly exaggerate what the technology can do by presenting successes as AI-driven, while mathematicians never took time to understand AI limitations—and warns readers they may lack expertise across math, AI, and software all at once.
