AI-driven cyber ransomware wave incoming: a 5-step digital preparedness checklist
harris_edouard · x · 2026-10-23
Quoting a national security expert's warning that "there's a decent chance the internet ceases to exist as such, at least for a time," Edouard Harris argues AI-powered cyber ransom and theft is about to explode and shares a quick digital preparedness checklist:
- Create a separate, totally random Gmail address just for banks/crypto/brokerage, with a unique password
- Write addresses and passwords on paper only; never share them on any digital medium
- Keep most crypto in an offline cold wallet; if crypto is a large share of your net worth, consider a different asset allocation
- Learn to enable iOS Lockdown Mode (Settings → Privacy & Security → Lockdown Mode); high-profile targets may run it by default
- Turn on 2FA/MFA on every account that supports it
He stresses none of this is a silver bullet, but it's about the best quick preparedness you can get.
